Weaving Wonder's Basic Knit Beanie- Test Pattern

Weaving Wonder's Basic Knit Beanie
Weaving wonder is quickly becoming one of my favorite designers to test for. I appreciate her ability to use simple stitch combinations to bring forth gorgeous texture! And I have come to expect those textures from her patterns!  Thus, this pattern took me by surprise!

NOTE: I will update this post once the pattern is LIVE

At first glance the hat doesn't look too incredibly special.  It is a common design that is easily accessable online. 1x1 ribbing followed by stockinette and finished with a pom pom!  Simple, quick, and practical.

However, the catch to this pattern has more to do with construction. I adore this decrease/crown shaping because it makes for a perfect fit! It is also super fun and gives you something to look forward to at the end of a simple knit.

The hat is decreased using slipped stitches and double point needles.  I appreciate the attention to detail in this and you will too!  My normal go-to decrease is k2tog. However, I'm excited to have learned this technique and know I will be applying it to other hat patterns from now on.

I tested this in the "toddler" size.  My goal is to get it photographed on a three year old because I intend to make this for one of my pre-k students. For now, I have put it on Sofia.  She has a tiny head and it fits her just right!  Plus, there is so much stretch.  I think it is a good hat to grow with!

Yarn Spotlight:  I used Lion Brand's Wool Ease for this project. It is a mix of acrylic and wool.  Has a bit of fuzz to it but is not scratchy.  It is a light worsted weight yarn and has a good amount of stretchy to it.  I will be using it again! The color options in this yarn are so great. This hat is knitted in the Blush Heather.  I like that it isn't shiny like some acrylics.  And, it does feel nice and warm.

Product Spotlight:  On my last trip to Michael's I came across a little tool that I haven't seen before. I'm sure it is old news to you. But I was pretty excited to try it!  I have been making pom poms by hand for years. However, they always come out less than perfect. The Clover brand pom pom maker carries two in a package and is very inexpensive. This is the first time that I've ever had a pretty pom pom!  So worth the money! hahaha
She a silly lil thing!
