Scarlett Braided Scarf- Test for JazzySteele

Texas weather rarely provides residents with an opportunity to wear a heavy knit garment. However, once in a while, I still get the itch to knit something genuinely warm and cozy!  The Scarlette Braided Scarf is the perfect winter knit!  I could not wait to cast on! Who cares if it will only get two or three days use during any given year!  (We don't get cold fronts often...)

The pattern is designed by super talented Jazzy Steele.  I will link all of her info below.  Be sure to check out her store on Ravelry!  She has some fantastic designs available!

This pattern was unique!  I have made my share of scarves (during my time in Colorado) and I was still surprised by how fun this was to knit!  Have you ever knit a scarf corner to corner?  Ya, me either!

Printing the sixteen page pattern was a bit intimidating!  This was probably the longest pattern that I've ever attempted.  However, once I got the groove it did not take long at all.  It was very easy to follow and I could still watch tv while knitting!  Once you start to see the scarf come together it is easy to know where you are and what to expect next. Although, I did like marking my spot every few rows in case I had to chase my kiddo!

My favorite part of the pattern was seeing the corners turn.  The only time I've knitted corner to corner was on wash cloths and small baby blankets.  This was, in my opinion, what made the pattern interesting!  Sometimes, when there are so many repeats (in cable knitting), a pattern can get kind of boring.  The corner to corner design made this exciting and fun! I could not wait to see how the scarf was going to come "full circle" and had a hard time putting it down for breaks.  You know... just ONE more row!

The other great part is the ability to knit this with readily available fibers.  Everyone loves to knit with exotic expensive yarns. However, not everyone has access to a local yarn shop.  The ability to knit this in a simple worsted weight yarn is not only convinient but affordable! I had everything the pattern required on hand.

I used "I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby in Ivory Tweed.  And it was perfect for the braided cables.  It was squishy and cozy and had perfect stitch definition! Plus, all the little bits of colors really added texture.

While this is knit flat, I still suggest using a good circular needle.  It just makes maneuvering your work that much easier and quicker. Plus, I like knowing I have extra room for all of my stitches.

I hope you take the time to give this pattern a chance.  It really is and interesting design and creates a GORGEOUS finished product.  My sweet coworker absolutely LOVED getting this as a gift.  She could not stop cuddling with it.

If you want to make yourself or someone you love a real statement piece...this is it! Yes, it does look very impressive but it is so well designed that you'll just fly through it!
